Welcome to Year 2!
Mrs. Wilson and Miss Leonard would like to welcome all of our Year 2 children to the second half of our Autumn term. Year 2 have worked so hard during the past half term so let’s make this half term just as great!
Our English topic will be focused around the book ‘Mighty Red’. Children will be looking at wishing stories, information texts based in Liverpool. They will also explore sentence work, punctuation, adjectives, conjunctions and antonyms. There will also be huge focus on phonics throughout this half term as we continue to introduce our Read, Write, Inc phonics, reading and spellings. Children will participate in the phonics screening check at the end of this half term.
For maths, we will continue to focus on basic skills and apply their knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in order to problem solve. We will also ensure children regularly practice their 2,5 and 10 times tables.
In Geography this half term children will explore Liverpool. They will look closely at ‘What is special about Liverpool?’. We will discuss famous buildings, Liverpool’s location and other cities in the United Kingdom.
In Science children will explore ‘What plants need to grow?’ through planting their own seeds, observing over time and identifying the key elements of ensuring what it takes to a plant can survive.
In computing this term children will explore problem Solving & Real-World Tech in order to plan a route of their own.
During Art this term we will be focusing on collage work, specifically Tula Moon.
For RE we will focus on the Christmas Story.
For PE we will be exploring multi-skills and look at ball games, including throwing and catching.
In PSHE we will explore ‘celebrating our differences’. Children will discuss and explore why being different can be a positive thing.
Some important information for Year 2 parents/carers:
- Reading books will now go home every Friday and must be returned the following Thursday.
- PE this term will be on a Friday, children just need sensible footwear as PE kits are already in school.
- It is important that every child has a water bottle in school each day.
