Year 5s visit to
the library
Suigh sios agus inseoidh me sceal duit
(Sit down and I'll tell you a story)
Year
5 recently went on a trip to the library in the
city centre. Here they got to take part in a very
interesting workshop all about storytelling. This
workshop was led by a man called Fran O'Boyle.
Fran has been working
as a storyteller for many years now and tours
extensively all over Ireland and the UK. He works
with all ages from under fives to pensioners and
everything in between. Though most of his work
tends to be in schools, he also performs in libraries,
art centres, museums, festival and many other
strange and wonderful locations up and down the
land.
His material is made
up of urban myths, traditional tales, anecdotes
and riddles. He also works as an illustartor and
runs storyboarding and storytelling workshops
that can be structured for both abdults and chidlren.
Whilst at the library,
children also got the opportunity to have a look
at 'The Everton Collection'. The Everton Collection
is one of the greatest collections of football
memorabilia in the world. It contains an amazing
variety of objects and documents recording the
history of Everton Football Club and the social
history of Liverpool from 1880 to the present
day. The collection os currently stored at Liverpool
Record Office in Liverpool Central Library.
Our children had the
opportunity to have a look into the different
treasure chests which contain fascinating objects
to help them learn about the past. Objects such
as replica objects, sound clips and dressing up
materials which help to create a fun, multi-sensory
learning experience.
I am sure all of our
chidlren had a fantastic day!
