Gifted and Talented3

At Leamington we strive to ensure all children achieve their potential in all aspects of their life. This is where Gifted and Talented plays its part in children's education. We keep a Gifted and Talented register to ensure children who are classed as 'Gifted' or 'Talented' are tracked throughout the school and are provided for to carefully nurture this particular achievement. Children who are identified on the register are also identified in their teacher's planning to ensure they are challenged in their lessons therefore achieving maximum progression. We also keep track of any extra-curricular activities that can help to aid a child's progression. The Gifted and Talented register can include children from Nursery up to Year 6.

How are children classed as Gifted or Talented?

Teachers hold discussions regarding their decisions to place a child on the Gifted and Talented register.

Gifted Children can be gifted in core subjects such as; Literacy, Numeracy, Science and ICT.
Talented Children can be talented in non-core subjects such as; Art, Design Technology, Music and PE.

How is Leamington progressing in its work on Gifted and Talented?

We are currently updating the Gifted and Talented register and this should be completed by Christmas. We are working towards achieving the NACE award which will help us to improve our provision for Gifted and Talented children.

Planning of the Curriculum

The DfES initiatives have brought literacy and numeracy to the forefront of all learning. The literacy and numeracy strategies have been established in schools for five years now. We have learned the skills from the strategies and in Leamington we have now developed an approach where children learn through themes and literacy can now be taught through the foundation subjects. Learning is now more joined up and fun.
